If you’ve just purchased your first Helt Studio apron, or are looking to take the plunge, we’re here to help you understand how to wash our aprons and take care of them for long-lasting comfort and satisfaction.

A good arpon combines function, durability, and design. From water-repellent aprons to our functional Bistro line, we craft our products with care and high-quality materials. Natural cotton, water-repellent fabric, and durable canvas make our uniforms special.

To care for these items, and learn how to clean an apron made by Helt Studio, just follow the steps below. In general, it’s always best to follow the care instructions we put on the tag.

The First Wash

The first wash is arguably the most important wash in your apron’s life. Our materials require just a bit of care, so knowing how to wash our aprons, especially for the first time, is essential to the longevity of your apron. The first wash will set the stage for what’s to come.

The main thing to remember is that heat is not your apron’s friend – heat in any form could potentially weaken the fibers of your apron, which will shorten its lifespan. So, when you wash your apron the first time, make sure you wash it in cold water, separate from other items, and by hand.

After that first wash, we recommend you follow the instructions on the label. There’s nothing better than knowing how to clean your apron so it’s fresh and functional.

Drying Your Apron

Once your apron is washed, air or line dry it – avoid the dryer! Your apron shouldn’t be around too much heat; while our materials are durable and made to last you for years of hard work, they won’t be able to do that if high temperatures shrink and warp your apron while it dries.

Fibers are at their most vulnerable when wet, so ensure that your clean apron won’t get damaged by hanging it up to dry or laying it flat. Doing this overnight should have your apron looking good as new by the morning.

Dealing With Stains

Any guide on how to wash an apron would be incomplete without addressing stains. We know that kitchens are messy – different types of food and fluids will inevitably fall on your apron. Here are some quick tips on how to clean various stains from your apron:

  • Did you spill ink on yourself? Soaking the spot in acetone for a few minutes should work. Rinse before you wash, and hang to dry.
  • Red wine stains are the bane of everyone’s existence. First, you should gently blot the wine stain, soak the stain in a white wine, and rinse it after 5 minutes. Blot out the liquid left over, sprinkle the area with salt, and leave that on for another 5 minutes. Finally, scrape the salt off and wash your apron normally.
  • If you’ve had a run-in with oil and/or butter, sprinkle the affected area with talcum powder. Leave that on overnight. Scrape that off in the morning and wash it as usual. You can also try using a stain remover.
  • General stains from food or coffee can be treated by covering with salt. Leave it on for a bit and scrape it off. You can repeat this if you think it’s necessary, but be sure to follow up with a regular wash of your apron.

Raw Denim Aprons

Our raw denim aprons are made out of 13oz of cotton raw denim that uses blue indigo. Blue indigo denim is known for bleeding, so you should take care when washing.

For our raw denim aprons, you should follow the first wash instructions and clean your apron by hand-washing in cold water, separately from other garments. You should follow this method multiple times before you wash your apron with other clothing items.

When you dry an apron made with raw denim, don’t lay it over anything that will stain, like your couch or bed. Instead, hang it on a hanger or on a designated drying rack. Once your apron is dry, it shouldn’t bleed or transfer onto upholstery.
